Review

Forever known as an episode which was responsible for the divide in fandom, this episode also contains some nice Janet scenes.

Our favourite doctor is clearly none too thrilled with the return of Anise, following the events of "Upgrades".  Although she initially appears just in a doctor role, she is later privy to the emotional developments in the episode.

With the arrival of the President, Janet needs to sedate Sam, and is also present when her friend is told that Colonel O'Neill is going through with a potentially fatal procedure.  In this scene, Janet shows the same level of empathy that she did in "A Hundred Days".  She understands the reasons behind Jack's decision as soon as he says it.  Having already worked out Sam's feelings for Jack in season three, she has, either in this episode of before, seen that these feelings were mutual.

Janet is also responsible for saving Jack's life, as she listens to Sam's sedative-induced ramblings and then runs across the base (in heels none the less!) to stop Anise.  Supporting Sam, both physically and most likely emotionally, shows the more caring aspects of her character (as well as highlighting the height differences between her and Sam!).

Janet is also witness to the voicing of the mutual feelings she'd already deduced.  As an Air Force officer, she understands the potential problems that this could cause career-wise.  As Sam's best friend, she also realises the potential personal issues this could cause.

Overall, although Janet is a little overshadowed in this episode by other revelations, it's a good episode for her.  She is able to show her empathy towards her patients, and also her dislike of Anise.  Although she is not a focus of the episode, her appearance is memorable and vital to the overall storyline.
