This episode’s a heartbreaker in many ways, and Janet just continues to add
to the angst. I’m a sucker for angst anyway, and “Entity” is one of my favourite
episodes of all time.
The episode starts off light-heartedly enough, and Janet adds to the light
feeling when she tells the “boys” that they need to report to the infirmary,
with a flick of her glove. Hammond also confirms what we all already knew –
Janet is in charge!! Hehe ;)
But when the episode turns more serious, she’s always there. One of the most
pivotal, and gut-wrenching scenes in the entire episode is when Jack tells her
to get the Entity out of Sam, and she just replies with “I don’t know how, sir.”
That’s the line that will get me every time, as she knows that she’s hopeless to
help her friend, and is finding it hard to remain objective. It’s just the way
she says it… {sniffs} Oh dear, if I’m like this when Sam
doesn’t actually die,
what am I going to be like when Janet does?! Waaaa!!
She’s also fighting her emotions later, after Jack has shot the Entity residing
in Sam, and she has to tell him that it’s “time to let her go.” She knows that
she can do nothing for Sam, and is now hoping that she can help Jack. She is one
of the few on base who knows about the depth and reciprocation of the feelings
the two have for each other, and knows that Jack won’t get through Sam’s death
alone.
However, it’s a happy ending for all, and the relief and happiness is evident as
the consciousness transferral works and Sam’s back where she belongs in her own
body. Janet helps to save the day once again!
