Review

This episode was a particularly powerful one for Dr Fraiser. We see Bra'tac removing Teal'c's symbiote in order to save his soul. Janet is initially anxious to return the symbiote, as his physical condition deteriorates. However given direct orders from her superior, General Hammond, Janet has to make the uneasy decision to abide by the decision. When questioned by Bra'tac on whether Janet considers herself a friend of Teal'c, her reply is instantaneous. Bra'tac encourages her to remain, as although methods Janet does not agree with are being pursued, her expertise may be required.

Janet shows concern over her patient the entire time in this episode, even though Bra'tac insists his methods are saving Teal'c. Janet can only see the pain and suffering that they are forcing him to endure. Janet can be seen at her most passionate towards the end of the episode, when Teal'c condition becomes grave. Janet portrays a great many emotions in this episode… her Doctor's instinct obvious throughout. We get the impression that Janet is horrified to leave Teal'c crashing on the bed whilst Bra'tac asks him to choose, we can Janet's emotions clearly as the symbiote is returned and Teal'c's condition remains unchanged. In the moments we see Janet fighting to save Teal'c the audience is left with the impression Janet is blaming herself for following her orders, almost blaming herself for the experience Teal'c has undergone.

One of the most poignant lines in this episode has to be the closing remarks by General Hammond and Janet.

General Hammond: "Thank you Doctor, Well done."
Dr Fraiser: "Yes Sir, I'm glad it worked out too."

Janet knowing all along that General Hammond had questioned Bra'tac's methods, possibly as concerned as she herself had been for Teal'cs safety.
