Review
This episode- although
focussing mainly on the offworld plot concerning O'Neill and Tyler's escape from
the Jaffa has very interesting scenes for Janet. Initial tests on Sam, Daniel
and Teal'c by the Doctor finds nothing physiologically wrong with them. We see
Janet's frustration, as she cannot provide the answers Hammond is asking for.
Janet also seems concerned for Colonel O'Neill, who remains trapped offworld.
Things get more intense after Colonel Simmons arrives on the base, and begins
questioning the team. Janet is under pressure to find a reason for SG1's
irrational behaviour.
Janet becomes exposed to a substance on Teal'cs jacket and can soon picture
Lieutenant Tyler's face, when two hours previously claimed she had never heard
of him. Janet confronts Sam about this, wanting to report it to General Hammond.
Sam however asks her to find a solution, in order to save Colonel O'Neill. Janet
knows that Sam is right, and doesn't report the incident. Instead making the
decision to find a solution to the problem and save Colonel O'Neill and SG1.
When the solution becomes apparent to her however, Janet has to fight to prove
to Simmons that she herself has not been compromised and that a rescue mission
would be feasible. Janet's dedication to her patients is apparent in these
scenes however when she undertakes a MRI to prove her theory of the substance on
Teal'cs jacket, knowing that by doing so she risks being confined and labelled
as compromised herself.
Janet makes an emotional plea to the General, "General, please. This could be
Colonel O'Neill's last hope." In order to save Colonel O'Neill. Which is
successful. Janet's respected position as Chief Medical Officer is apparent by
the General's decision to follow her advice. No matter what Colonel Simmons
thinks about her.
